Lovett v Pope - Varsity Boys
February 15, 2008

The third game of a busy week was played against a well organized and talented Pope team. The first half was a relatively tame affair and gave little hint of the fireworks to come. Lovett started the game passing very well and probably had the better of the opening 40 minutes. Jack Hall played in Sam Roberson whose shot was well saved by the impressive Pope goalkeeper. At the other end there was good defending from Harrison Dykes and Tyler Decker while Teddy Rodts was using his pace to good advantage down the left side.  Lovett had a let off when a Pope striker missed when through on goal but otherwise there were few scares and Andrew Bleke had a chance after good link-up play between Teddy Rodts and Eddie Nam, but his shot went over.
The game came to life early in the second half when Jack Hall scored a good individual goal, beating three defenders and curling his shot around the Pope goalie. Unfortunately this seemed to spur Pope into action and Lovett conceded two goals in the next few minutes. The game was effectively over when a harsh penalty decision was awarded against Lovett and Pope made it 3-1, despite a good effort from Stephen Joy to save the kick. This quick barrage seemed to deflate Lovett and Pope scored 3 more times, twice from corners which Lovett failed to clear. The later stages saw appearances from Matthew Wohlford (spelling?), Dan Hall and William Anderson. The final score of 6-1 was harsh and unreflective of the balance of the whole game.
